Is the previously well-oiled Nu Labour Spin Machine starting to creak a little? I found myself wondering partly because of the split occasioned by Jack Straw's comments on masked Muslim women. (Fair point, but dear god, did it have to be made by the guy who was Foreign Secretary when we attacked Iraq?) The interview with Caroline Flint on this morning's Today programme was also a bit less than slick. I mean, really. In the context of a discussion about 'the obesity crisis', do you really want to refer to doctors' obligations to - ahem - "the wider community"?
