08/31/2005: "Think of the children, Part 1"

'People accused of sexual offences could be placed on the sex offenders register before they appear in court, a senior police officer has suggested. Deputy Chief Constable Robert Ovens of the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (Acpos) said it was an idea which should be explored.'

I was already preparing an apopleptic response to this latest attack on the presumption of innocence. But then I read the next line.

'There have been calls for reforms after the murder of schoolboy Rory Blackhall.'

Of course. A child has died. Reasoned argument and balanced analysis would be manifestly inappropriate at this point. Far better to allow 'the authorities' to get on with changing the law as they see fit. Democracy and accountability are luxuries for quieter times.

Not to mention the red-tops have the individual who killed himself already 'fitted up' for this child's murder before the investigation has been completed. If we really wanted to protect children from paedophilia then let's try tackling the root causes instead of thrwoing up soem Aunt Sally measures to placate the baying mobs.

Most paedophilia happens within the family unit. I don't see any measures to deal with that.

FAR more children die in road accidents than could ever be killed by 20 times the number of sickos we have in the populace. I don't see any calls for putting drunk drivers on any register before they have even been found guilty.

Smoke and mirrors my friends, smoke and mirrors.
