08/16/2005: "Public Consultation"

... on the proposed reform of the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Act 1990 was launched today. I'll doubtless have a lot more to say about this in due course, but for now I have one plea: those of you who care about this stuff should seriously think about submitting responses. Because the Biocons (bioethics conservatives, yeah?) will be determined & organised. Josaphine Quintavalle has already been quoted all over the place about this, and she will be doing her damndest to make sure CORE is portrayed as the voice of reason and democracy. (If anyone thinks this might be true, have a gander at my 'Pro-life tactics...' piece. Over there, on your right. Yep, that's it.)

Anyway, if only the biocons sound off about this, while the left/libertarians/liberals/feminists stay silent, the perceived middle ground will shift beneath our feet. Transhumanists and the like are already depicted as nutters, while those who would rather we entrusted reproduction to an invisible omnipotent entity in the sky are invited onto government committees.

It is, I think, time to roll up our sleeves and enter the fray...

Can I add my plea to this too! The so-called "middle ground" can't shift further in "their" direction.....that way madness & USA style "body politics" lie.
