07/20/2005: "Megalomaniac update"
Respect to Gayle, Alasdair & Carol who have so far taken up the invitation to reveal their dictatorial impulses to the world via NationStates. Particularly love Gayle's choice of currency, and would give almost anythging to hear one of those stony-faced CNN financial corespondents have to report that 'For the third day in succession, the dollar has fallen against the bonk.' The notion of bonk reserves also intrigues (and, no doubt, frustrates), as does the notion of a Royal Bank bonk.
The Serene Republic of Harangustan continues to languish in socially libertarian/economically progressive bliss, though the vultures of economic peril are circling. I actually fleetingly dallied with the notion of some sort of unholy fusion of libertarianism and Islam: a Nozick minimal state, concerned only to protect against force and fraud, but backed up by hardcore Sharia sanctions. Not sure how it would have worked, but I had a motto all ready: 'Hands off ... or hands off!'
