07/15/2005: "Musical baton"
Sort of a chain thing, but it appealed to my Inner Nerd.
1. The person who passed the baton to you.
I nicked it (at his invitation) from Ken Macleod's blog. I've never met this guy (though hope to maybe bump into him at Interaction), but love his books, and the afore-mentioned blog makes good reading too.
2. Total volume of music files on your computer.
Quite a lot, although it's been wiped twice! (Way more traumatic than the work I lost!)
3. The title and artist of the last CD you bought.
Can't remember, but last one I got was 'Porcelain' by Sparta (the less hairy half of At the Drive-In). It's rather good.
4. Song playing at the moment of writing
None, but Asian Dub Foundation's 'Enemy of my Enemy' finished about three minutes ago. It's a deceptively bouncy wee ditty about US/UK foreign policy and the dangers of 'Blowback'.
5. Five songs you have been listening to of late (or all-time favourites, or particularly personally meaningful songs)
I'll go with 'recent', or I could be here all day.
Orbital - 'Dwr Bdr' - reminds me of wonderful, chilled, thoroughly decadent summers past.
Bloc Party - 'Helicopter' - guitars, drums, fun.
The Duke Spirit - 'Love is an Unfamiliar Name' - yes, they sound like PJ Harvey, but then Polly sounds a bit like Patti Smith, so no fair complaining.
Interpol - 'Leif Erikson' - gorgeous.
Warren Zevon - 'Roland the Headless Thomson Gunner' - I can almost hear Mr Lusiphur's plaintive 'oh gaaawd, not the one about the Congo war again!'. Sorry, but I'm still hooked on this. (Nice to see Mr Macleod name-check it too.) Can't help wondering, though - if Roland was a Norwegian merc, fighting alongside a South African merc, chances are he was on Mobutu's side, no? In which case, why did the CIA have him whacked? I smell a conspiracy ...
6. The five people to whom you will 'pass the musical baton.'
Dunno. It will probably be sent in reciprocation to the next 5 people to spam me, so Carol and Christine are likely to be 2 of them. ;-)
